It is all coming quickly. And it could indeed be a two-way street. Which is why several large tech companies (Google, Facebook Amazon, Microsoft, others) have begun to convene a consortium to more deeply explore ethics in relation to AI and deep learning. However, as history has repeatedly shown us, whenever a powerful new technology comes along, there will be those who seek to abuse it for their own gain and power, and no doubt that will happen here as well. There is a need for guards on how AI can and cannot be used. But who will enforce that? At this point, it will have to be up to each government to do so. But since some governments live on the dark side, it does raise concerns for what could be done. This actually gets into a field known as cyberwar. An example of an act of cyberwar would be taking down a nation’s entire banking system. But, unlike conventional warfare, we have no rules yet for cyberwar… they haven’t been written. That is yet to be done. We are are at Hour 1 of Day 1 of that world.
